Bone grafting procedures are done to restore bone to its previous form following tooth loss, tooth damage or gum disease, and it is an effective method in creating a solid base for dental implants.
Traditionally, bone is taken out of a different part of your body and transplanted to your jaw, however at Sorriso Dental, we use a special bone grafting material that works equally well. It often takes several months for the bone graft to organically create enough strong, new bone in your jaw before moving on to the dental implant phase.
Bone grafting may be needed before your dental implant procedure if:
- Available bone isn't dense or thick enough for the procedure
- Bone isn't deep enough for the procedure
- Bone isn't wide enough for the procedure
