Botox stands for botulinum toxin, which comes from a form of a purified protein.
When injected, the protein temporarily stops the muscle movement under the skin that result in wrinkles. After administration of Botox, changes are noticeable in the applied area as soon as 3 to 10 days after treatment. The effect lasts for about three to four months, in which the patient will need to come back in for additional treatments.
Some popular areas to get Botox are:
- Between the eyes
- Around the corners of eyes (crow's feet)
- Around the lips
